About Tanya Smith
Tanya is an accredited integral leadership development coach and management professional. She has worked throughout her 30 year professional life with individuals and teams in both the private and public sector.
After graduating from the University of Ottawa, she joined the Federal Public Service and worked for 15 years with Canada Border Services Agency, starting as a front line Customs Inspector. Tanya occupied positions of increased responsibility in middle management and subsequently executive positions. In this environment, Tanya managed large scale, multifaceted regional and national programs and projects, with significant budgetary and human resource responsibilities.
In 2004, after 15 years of public sector work, she successfully transitioned from public sector work to take on the role as Business Manager at a startup Ottawa based independently owned real estate company. In this position, Tanya played an integral role in the creation, development and day to day management of this highly successful real estate company. She assisted the business owners in growing the business through the provision of excellent client service, targeted marketing programs, strategic team building and establishing community outreach relationships/partnerships.

Tanya appreciates the value of having a coaching relationship as coaching played a significant role both professionally and personally throughout her career and specifically in her transition from public to private sector industry. Coaching helped Tanya to establish a desire to explore whether her skills, abilities and capacities were transferable from public to private sector industries.
After gaining accreditation as an integral coach, Tanya decided to launch Red Bug Coaching & Consulting Inc., creating an entrepreneurial experience for herself and as a way to bring her expertise in both coaching and management to a broader client base. She works with individuals and/or organizations to develop/build their competencies to face their individual life situation or corporate challenges. Whether personally or professional Tanya is known for her work ethic, her trust, her discretion, her ability to listen and skills of putting people at ease. Her focus is centered on how individuals and /or organizations can improve on their capacity to achieve long term performance excellence and personal effectiveness. Tanya is also certified in Action Learning (Coaching Circle) methodology. This methodology enables managers and executives to learn and use coaching skills to address the complex challenges they face in their organizations and leadership roles.
Tanya’s dedication to community goes above and beyond her business and corporate responsibilities and her community building spirit and volunteerism was key to her being awarded Ottawa Citizen of the Year in 2009.
Tanya grew up in Northern Ontario close to Lake Superior and shares her life with her husband of 27 years and their daughter and takes pleasure in spending time entertaining family and friends in their home in Ottawa. She enjoys many past times and continues to play an active role in her community.
